GLP-1s and your relationship with food
Most of the conversation around GLP-1s is about pounds lost or gained. But food is about so much more than numbers. It is connected to our emotions, connections, self-worth.
That’s why prioritising your relationship with food is just as important. If one day you stop using GLP-1s, these skills will continue to support you. Struggles with food often run deeper than appetite alone. For many, patterns like emotional eating, binge–restrict cycles, or years of dieting have shaped how they feel about food and their body.
GLP-1 medications can reduce hunger and make eating feel more manageable, but they don’t automatically heal those long-standing challenges. Shifts on the scale aren’t the same as healing your relationship with food.
That’s why it’s so valuable to focus on building trust with your body and food choices, alongside any medical treatment. This kind of inner work sets the foundation for lasting wellbeing especially since most people won’t remain on these medications forever. Support from a therapist, a dietitian, a registered nutritionist or a caring community can make this process feel less overwhelming and much more sustainable.
And remember that learning to care for your body and food relationship is worthwhile whether or not you take the medication.
Please make sure you discuss any medication decision with a trusted healthcare provider. Safety always comes first, and getting reliable, supervised care makes all the difference.
